It is one of the popular forms of classical South Indian painting. It is the native art form of Tanjore city (Thanjavur) of Tamil Nadu. They are locally known as 'Palagai Padam' as it is mainly done on solid wood planks. The theme of Tanjore Painting is of Hindu Gods and Goddesses, along with saints. Tanjore painting is a celebration of the region’s rich artistic tradition in India. Tanjore paintings are known for their extravagant depictions of deities using vibrant colours and Shiny embellishments, especially gold foil.
